Our Story
The beauty in the intricacies of each bloom
It all started with...
When I was very young, we had a neighbor who had a very small and modest garden. Her garden was about the size of a parking space, but that did not thwart her abilities to grow heaps of wonderful herbs, vegetables, and flowers. Of all the different varieties of flowers our neighbor grew, the zinnias were what really drew me in to take a closer examination of the bounty from this talented gardener. I admired how the zinnias came in such an array of colors that exude such vibrancy. I must have been about eight years old at the time, but I remember thinking that I would love to grow beautiful flowers like that someday when I get bigger.
Fast forward many, many decades later...
My husband, two kids and I moved from California to Symmes Township, Ohio and bought a home with so much more growing space than what we had. In California, there was about ,maybe four feet between our house and our neighbor's house. Not much room for gardening. Now living in Ohio, I was able to grow beautiful flowers that I wasn’t an option before. I was thrilled to grow peonies, daffodils, crocus, hyacinths, and tulips. As my kids grew older, as did I, my awareness began to shape to the changing world. I wanted to become a better steward of the land and its resources. I wanted to offer our community beautiful flowers that are grown locally and not shipped in from all over the world from places like Africa, Asia, and South and Central America. A rose from the grocery store travels about 2,400 miles! I also wanted to offer our community flowers that haven’t been sprayed with so many harmful pesticides. The run-off is so detrimental to the natural habitat upon which our pollinators depend. These are just a few reasons for us to strive to make a difference in how our children and grandchildren will inherit the Earth.
We grow flowers not because we have to. We grow flowers because their beauty bring us joy, and they bring joy and comfort to others. The beauty in the intricacies of each bloom we grow is seldom matched elswhere. We want to share that beauty with you.
